According to Milton, why or how does truth become a "heresy" if a person only believes things because his pastor or his government tells him so? Why does Milton find that dangerous? Do you agree with Milton? Why?
This question was somewhat difficult to answer because I didn't know exactly what the word "heresy" meant, then I looked it up and in the dictionary and it is defined as, "an opinion or doctrine contrary to church dogma (ideas)." So in order for the truth to become a heresy if a person only believes in what his or her pastor or government says is if, the pastor or government is hypocritical in what they say. For example, censorship may be placed on printed material, but the authorities may be speaking about the material that was censored. Milton finds that when the truth becomes a heresy it is dangerous because people will not know the difference between right and wrong. Thus causing chaos and no individual thoughts or ideas. I agree with Milton because people need to be with people in order to live a rich and successful life. As mentioned in class we must take our ideas and others ideas and meld them together to have a prosperous and harmonous society.
