Supreme Court Justice Potter Stewart said that "“Censorship reflects a society's lack of confidence in itself. It is a hallmark of an authoritarian regime.” Do you agree or disagree with his opinion? Why?
The quote that Supreme Court Justice Potter Stewart said about censorship and how it can bring about an authoritarian regime is a very good point. If society does not have confidence in its people and the ideas its people have, than barriers will be put up in order to make the society more comfortable with itself. If one person is uncomfortable with an idea, they will try to convince others to believe what they believe is correct. Since there are leaders and followers in this world, the leaders will adjust the level of confidence of the society and this will cause their ideas to be inflicted on the followers. Therefore creating an authoritarian regime. Its scary to think that protecting society from what is believed to be unethical or bad can lead to dangerous control of all society by only a small amount of people.

It is ironic how they try to "protect us" from the truth, but end up hurting us in the long run. The few in power take upon themselves to decide what is right or wrong, which may not be the mentality of the majority.

When you said...If one person is uncomfortable with an idea, they will try to convince others... It is believable that others persude and persude others into thinking what a person strongly thinks. If a person is a follower than they are easly persuded.
